Well, after a lot of research and many forum topics, I think I finally have my build setup. I picked out the processor and video card myself, and based the rest off of some packages and deals I found around. I was pretty lost on stuff like PSU and motherboard, but I found someone with a lot of experience who found some great options.

Here is the build in its current form:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

I aimed to produce a mid-range general good performance/gaming pc that will also be useful for a long time in the future - I'm not planning on replacing this any time soon.

Anyway, I just wanted some extra opinions before I actually buy it.

Everything is fine of ur build .
But choose a better PSU. Xfx is not a very good brand or quality. Check out corsair 550w 80+gold. It will be aprox $20-25 costly. But never choose a cheap PSU. So choose a good PSU like corsair or sesonic.

are you kidding me??? All of XFX's PSUs are rebranded Seasonics.....

Yes, you are correct. Seasonic makes the XFX processors.

Don't expect to play games on High (1920x1080 monitor) with a 650ti boost. Your build is balanced but if you want great gaming performance you gotta bump up your GPU.

Other than maybe spending more on a GPU, I'd say your build is perfect. I like all your choices and the price is awesome.

I know that very well my friend.
But I and some other my friends got problems with xfx PSUs. It's my personal experience. That's why I said for corsair or sesonic self brand PSU.
Otherwise it's all ur choice my friend. I got bad experience with xfx so shared. Now it depends on u to take it seriously or not.

like i said... just get a 7850 and overclock it... it'll run games on 1080p on high/max with at least a consistent 30-40 fps...

Gtx 650ti boost is fine ! Bf3 ultra 50+ fps no problem... Well nowadays difference between mid-high-max. Settings are mostly barly noticable in games...
Well the new metro still looks very very good on lowest settings...

For 185$ you can get the galaxy gtx 660, its faster then a hd 7850.
Also this model is very cool and quiet, one of the best or the best gtx660 model

You think difference between mid high max isn't much? then clearly you have a weak GPU. I went from playing BF3 (60fps) on High with a 560ti to Ultra with a 660ti; and the difference was WOW!!

650ti boost is great but 660s are going down in price. This is a good 660 for $10 more than your boost.

I'm not looking for the absolute best in performance with this build. Price is a real issue right now, and I want to keep everything as far under $800 as I can. I've done a LOT of research, and the 650 Ti Boost is, as far as I can tell, the best GPU for the price.

At the minute, the most graphics-intensive game I play is MineCraft (at 10fps on my current laptop). I dont know how the future will go, but if I was to upgrade something in this rig ever, it'd be the graphics card. But for now, I really don't mind going on high instead of ultra :)

As I understand it, the human eye can't see above something like 27 fps. After living on an average 25-30 with regular spikes of lag down to 10 or below in a basic game, my research makes me feel that this build will give me what I'm looking for.

I probably won't be able to run BF3 in ultra, full resolution, with 60 fps. That's A-OK with me, to he honest. For the savings in price, I feel that this is the best graphics card to go with.

Well first off that part you picked looks at least $40 more expensive, but that could just be me. I'm not looking for "Ultra" performance from this build. I'm looking for something that can run games well for a long time. The processor and ram and stuff was picked especially to have a long usable lifespan, and still deliver decent results.

Oh and also, to tell you just how much I'm trying to save money, I probably would have dumped windows 8 entirely for Linux to save that extra $90, but luckily I found some best buy gift cards laying around.

Well, PSUs are probably the thing (besides mobos) that I know the least about. I did a quick search and found an actual SeaSonic PSU for the same price with 430 watts instead of my 550 watts... (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151074) Do you guys really think it's worth it for me to get a more expensive PSU for the same rating/performance? I looked through some user feedback about my current PSU - the biggest complaint seems to be with customer support. I mean there's a few that say it died after 2 weeks or something, but I've seen that everywhere.

Anyway, I know little to nothing about PSUs in general. Do you really think I'd be better off spending $10-$20 more get a different one?

I know that. I want to build a computer that will allow me to branch off into more gaming horizons in the future. I'm building a computer that will last at least 5 years and still be able to manage new games that may come out before then.

I know I could get a $400-$500 PC that could rune Minecraft on max settings perfectly, but it would butcher something like BF3 (A game I bought but was unable to play because of my current laptop's lack of this thing it knows is rumored to call a "grapics card.") I lent it to a friend and may have to get it back now that I'll actually be able to play it ;)

But anyway, yeah. I'm building for the future with this PC.

You're not going to find PSUs that's any more reliable than seasonic... Spending $10-20 more won't make much of a difference. EVERY PSU manufacturer has PSus that fail a couple days to a couple weeks. there's no way to avoiding that unless they throw out anything other than perfect ones and lose money..

You should spend $10-20 more for a good quality 7850 2GB. It overclocks great and will last you a good bit longer than a 650 ti boost.

Asus DC2 probably has the best cooling aside from the Sapphire Vapor X coolers...

and what resolution are you gaming at? because even my GPU won't be able to play games at max settings at 30+ fps for more than the next 1-2 years lol.

For the record, I don't see anything particularly wrong with your build. The 3570k is a great CPU, the 212 Evo is probably the best aftermarket cooler for the money, and that XFX PSU is a great choice (also happens to be what I have). If anything I would suggest a beefier GPU for the future (an HD 7850 was mentioned and would also be my recommendation). Also, you can probably find a Caviar Blue 1TB for not much more than what you have already.

Also, do you have any interest in an SSD?

I've looked long and hard at graphics cards, and I've decided that the 650 Ti Boost is the one I'm going with. I really don't want to switch up. I've been told by multiple people and sources that it is the best card for the price.

Also, I am not getting this laptop to run Crisis 3 on max graphics across 3 screens. I'm getting this laptop to give me a basic gaming platform that will last me a long time. To be honest, as long as I can get a game to run at a decent quality with a decent amount of fps, I'll be happy.

Anyway, I can always just upgrade the card later if I start playing more graphics-hungry games.
