How can I upgrade my OLD System and make it run like new ?
So, Here the story starts.
I had posted several threads on new PC. Either PC or Play Station..............
Now, I have two Conditions : I have a Desktop (Very OLD). And I have a 3 Years OLD Laptop.
My Laptop : Intel Celeron 900 @ 2.2Ghz ,1GB DDR2 RAM, Integrated Graphics, 160GB HDD. (Dell VOSTRO 1015).
My Very OLD Desktop : Intel Pentium Processor (As Its very old [about10 years or more, and haven't used that PC in past 3 years after getting the laptop] I don't know the processor model and speed)
It had 2 sticks of 256MB DDR or DDR2 ????? RAM= 512 MB Installed Memory.
That PC ran on Windows XP SP2 and is still with SP2. It got many times -----------
You can imagine.........
It currently has only 20GB HDD............. This is not a Joke. My Parents were saying that they bought this computer has best one out at that time for RS.30000.

Before going further, I will also like to post a link :
http://www.techradar.com/news/computing-components/graphics-cards/how-to-make-an-external-laptop-graphics-adaptor-915616

What should I upgrade ? I want to make my PC run like the best I can get.
My Budget is limited to Rs.30,000. Only/-

I know that upgrading a laptop is very limited.
So, I assume we will be upgrading the Desktop........
I never ever had an opportunity / never ran PC with Graphics. :(

OK, So, What do you think what should I upgrade ?
Any Help will be appreciated.

Solution
i DO NOT recommend upgrading your laptop. i dont think it has support for 8gb memory. and radeon HD 7850 with a celeron will be like the bottleneck of the year. plus i dont think laptop parts are much upgradeable. your better off with the FX build.

Yes I want to game a lot. I am crying on my crap laptop which has integrated graphics which can not even run my all time favorite game Railworks 3 and 4 Train Simulator and Microsoft Flight Simulator.

It's pointless upgrading it. It will be cheaper to get a new desktop.

I'd do something like this:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/pc-gaming-overclock-build-a-pc,3443-8.html

except swap out the intel processor and mobo for an AMD CPU and mobo. This will save you roughly $100-$150. So it would make it around $500 which is about 27872.50 Indian Rupees.

With a little extra in case of higher prices etc.

Hopefully, you can find those parts at roughly the same price in India.

Well, I think that will not be called an upgrade. I will be removing all the components in my desktop and just leave the Cabinet in which I will be installing new components.
Here's one configuration:
PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZB7s
Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZB7s/by_merchant/
Benchmarks: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZB7s/benchmarks/

CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor ($189.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($68.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($69.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Toshiba 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($54.98 @ Outlet PC)
Video Card: XFX Radeon HD 7850 1GB Video Card ($139.99 @ NCIX US)
Power Supply: Rosewill Stallion 450W ATX12V Power Supply ($34.99 @ Amazon)
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($17.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $576.92
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)
(Generated by PCPartPicker 2013-05-24 06:23 EDT-0400)

Well, I like that Configuration. What's your opinion ?
I have monitor and keyboard and mouse.
$576.92 = Rs.32,075

Please do not comment on Processor because I will not change the processor because I need very much Processing Power.
What do you think about this configuration ?

If you can squeeze in a 7870, it's quite a big jump up.

However, your configuration is all around quite decent. You might get more gaming performance by switching to an intel configuration around the same price, like a 3470 paired with a cheap motherboard, but this will serve fine for gaming anyways.

450 Watts is sufficient, just you won't have tons of headroom.

overall nice build but PSU is a little low for that rig, i suggest atleast 500 watts for it also, try to increase the Gfx to Radeon HD 7870 if you have the cash. you will get much better results in gaming. and why do you need 8 cores for?

I think it will be impossible to sell a 10+ Years old CPU @ 2000 ......................
Can you do me a favor please ?
Can you please tell me how can I get my shipment to india from USA at less cost ?
One forwarding service which I know is Shipito Forwarding Service. What will be an approximate weight of the above components ?

try and search you local stores for all the parts, and as for the HDD and optical drive don't buy them from USA, buy them at your local stores it will save you some cash. try to get the mobo from india too and if you don't find the one you like here ship it from USA.same thing for CPU and Gfx card, search the local stores from them, shipping from america should be your last option.

The thing which you old above, I was trying and getting for it but ,it way increased the total cost.
I will be buying CPU, PSU, DVD Drive and Hard Drive from india. and I will buy Mobo, GFX Card and RAM from USA because : 1. Motherboard is least available here, and if available, too costly. 2. GFX Card is too high price her in india. Many varieties of GFX Card Available in USA. 3. RAM is also very costly. The one I am buying is selling for starting at 89 dollars here.

One more reason for buying only those three things from USA is that, those components are not much heavy and so, there will be less shipping charges.

really ram is that pricey there? possibly because corsair is a high end brand and in india there are probably low profile transcend, apacer adata etc rams.

i have to know your mobo's model no. if not atleast CPU's model no. but guessing that its over 10 years old it may not be a LGA 775 sockted CPU... but if it is you may be in luck.at least tell me if its DDR 2 or just DDR if you have no information

Well, Sorry to say for myself but one bad news coming in my mind that might be right ....... ??????/
Some 8 days ago, I totally disassembled that PC leaving just the mobo and processor in the case installed.
It doesn't seem to me be a LGA socket processor because its socket lever exactly looking like an AMD from outside.
Its an intel processor , don't get confused. It had intel heat sink in square shape. What do you think it might be ?

The thing you are asking the only confusion for me. I can tell you that where the ram notches are ?:
The ram stick has a single notch in near to its center and one notch near to its left had side before ending of the ram stick.

I assume that's a DDR1 . See this : http://weilindun.en.made-in-china.com/product/qoZJVudcMwkA/China-400MHz-DDR1-Desktop-Memory-RAM-PC-3200-DR-09-.html
Look at the first RAM stick in the photo. Its similar to the RAM in my PC.

eh forget it, its a PGA socket, with some really old chipset. your better off selling it cause there is no room for future upgrading...

yes as far as i remember, amd processors use PGA socket's.

:)I think I should save money, make my current laptop some good by spending some god money.
Upgrade the RAM to hmmmm.....8gb ??? enough. :D
Install an SSD ???
AND the most important : GFX Card through this method : http://www.techradar.com/news/computing-components/graphics-cards/how-to-make-an-external-laptop-graphics-adaptor-915616

GFX : hmmm. 7850 will be OK ??? Can it handle games on my laptop ? any troubles ?

And One more important thing : My laptop gets very hot, so a very good Laptop cooling Pad.
So, What do you think this will be OK ?
Any Opinions ?
And Moreover, I am only a student of 9th class now and need not to show off my big work.
I just want a fast PC and Cool too.
