I have a laptop and :

Graphic card Nvidia get force GT 630 M
Processor is Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 2450 M CPU @ 2.50 GHz
I have 8 GB RAM and Windows 7 64 bit

I have problems playing games like Tomb Raider or Assassin's Creed 3 even on minimum settings, my game is lagging( low framerate) or whatever is called, also when I am watching some videos on youtube they also ,,lag ' 'sometimes. I have to say I also have a desktop which I gave to my brother which has Nvidia get force gt 450 and intel core 2 duo with 2.50 GHz and 2 gb ram and the games mentioned above are running smoothly on high settings which is very strange! If you can help me I would appreciate it.

P.S.: My windows 7 isn't activated yet... it could be the reason my laptop isn't running smoothly?

No it's not windows 7. Make sure your drives are up to date. Defragment your harddrive. Possibly, you might have to reformat if you have viruses. Disable all background processes that aren't required. But frankly speaking, the GT 630M isn't particularly powerful, and might not be able to handle those games even at minimum.

However, I highly suggest you update your drivers and try again. Also make sure your laptop is utilizing your discrete graphics card and not defaulting to your integrated one.

Strangely enough, I check sites such as Can you run it ? before installing a game and I have the minimmum required to play those games, and i suppose the 630 M is worse than the gt 450 one? I am not really experienced when it comes to determining hardware's effectiveness. Still, thank you and I will come back if I notice an improvement

It really sounds like it might be an issue with your system not switching to the discrete graphics, make sure your power is plugged in, and that your battery is not set to power save mode. If it's using the integrated graphics from the processor, that would definitely explain the lack of performance. Try updating the drivers too.

It sounds like your laptop is underpowered, and it is. The 630m GPU is very weak. It isnt designed to run highly intense games. It isnt your drivers, or anything else. A $500 desktop would outperform your laptop, sorry, but it would.

Ok so i suppose its the graphic's card fault? well at least I have a start...well what card can you recommend me then? Something that an manage new games very well,if it is possible to change it of course. And btw... it is true that a desktop with the same specs would be much powerful that the laptop ? because I have heard that no matter how powerful it is, laptops will pale in comparison to its desk variant , and laptops are not really suited for games, more for business...

Laptops will ALWAYS pale in comparison to desktops. Its purely a matter of size of the components. A 630m is not as powerful as a 630 discrete card (even tho the 630 discrete is still underpowered for gaming). Just how it goes when you start shrinking stuff. A 680m is no where near as powerful as a 680 discrete card. Just another comparison. And im pretty sure in your laptop, although I may be incorrect in saying this as I havent looked up your laptop, it isnt possible to swap out GPUs. Laptops arent made to be upgradable cept for memory or storage unless you spend a lot on a "gaming" laptop that has a removable GPU.

So, the moral of the story: SIZE DOES MATTER! Thank you for clarifying this, although i am a bit confused by the card model, how does the generation affects performance, i have seen generation 400 , 500 and 600, and some say that 500 is better than 600? how can you determine which card is better?

No seriously, look at what i posted. It seems to be able to run around 80 fps on absolute lowest settings. I really think it's a driver issue, or it's using the integrated graphics.

Actually The global setting is High performance Nvidia processor, and now my driver is up to date, but i noticed a slight improvement after i updated it... its a shame really, i have 4 nice processors but a graphic card from the stone age, Still, i thank you all for the advice.
