Hi, Please can someone suggest which motherboard to buy which will allow me to reused my intel Q6600 cpu but also allow future cpu upgrade. I need to stage my upgrade due to funds. What CPU would you suggest to go in this mobo when I come to upgrade in say 6 months?
usb 3.0 would be great, not fussed about onboard gfx.
many thanks in advance

The Q6600 uses socket 775 which is pretty outdated. You can upgrade using a Q9700 extreme edition, but you would probably be better off with the Q9650 or Q9550S. IMO, you would be wasting your $ following that upgrade path - you would be much better off working toward and IVY platform.

To answer your original question, gigabyte GA-G41MT-S2P or msi G41M-P25 are/were well rated. 775 m/b's are getting pretty hard to find.

Hi Guys, thanks for the advice. I was arriving at the conclusion that I would have to replace both. Its a pity as the q6600 seems a good cpu, I just can get more than 2gb ram on the current mobo. the q6600 cpu doesnt seem much slower than the Core i3 2120.
damn.
Thanks anyways.

Q6600 should put to retirement.
Any upgrade to Q6600, DDR2 to DDR3 or mobo will be relative useless nowadays.
Yes getting more RAM will be the best choice if you want to keep your Q6600 for a bit longer.

Q6600 is not that bad and still not that slow compared (like you mentioned) i3 2120.
If you want to upgrade i5 3570k or FX8350 will be the minimum or you will not get a big boom upgrade.
ah...If you are willing to wait, Hasswell will come very soon.

I put my Q6600, P5E-X38 and 6GB DDR2 800 RAM to retirement (sold them on ebay) about 6 weeks ago.
I went for i7 3770k configuration and I am happy with it...the next step will be to get the HD8xxx to replace my HD6850 :)
