1600mhz RAM running on 1333mhz

Greetings,

I bought myself a new computer last month ago, but just now I noticed my RAM was running on 1333mhz instead of 1600mhz. I have an Asus P8H77-M LE motherboard together with an i5-3570k processor. The ram I have is a Kingston HyperX Blu 8gb 1600mhz. From what I know, my motherboard doesn't support XMP, so I don't know what to do and I'm asking you guys to help me. :)

I hate to point fingers but you are wrong. :oops: Your motherboard supports XMP feature and as mentioned in the earlier post by adycopilu. Moreover, if you look at the QVL (memory support list) majority of the memory listed are memory with XMP profiles.

H77 chipset and Ivy Bridge CPU (like yours) should support XMP profiles (these are not supported on AMD platform for example). However, if you can't find it in BIOS, then you need to manually OC the RAM.

Coming to the issue DDR3-1600 memory running @ 1333MHz. I suppose the memory which you have is probably something like this one - KHX1600C10D3B1/8G.

If it is something like the above memory, then this might be a possible explanation for why it is detecting a lower speed. In the official Kingston doc it is mentioned that the memory is tested to be running at 1600MHz but the SPD (Serial Presence Detect) is programmed to JEDEC standard latency DDR3-1333 timing. Also the motherboard's manual quote something similar "The default DIMM frequency depends on its Serial Presence Detect (SPD), which is the standard way of accessing information from a memory module. Under the default state, some memory modules for overclocking may operate at a lower frequency than the vendor-marked value."

So I think you ought to set the frequency manually. To do so please follow the instructions mentioned in the following webpage:

In the contents page there is a topic called AI tweaker Menu, go to the corresponding topic and you will find the necessary details as to how to set the frequency manually using the UEFI BIOS utility.
