Hello, recently my PSU has been on it's way out. It's a no-brand, generic PSU (I know, I know). It was causing the system to hard freeze every hour or so, and now there is a burning smell coming from it. I have already ordered a Corsair TX750 V2, but I am wondering if it is possible to continue to use the faulty PSU in the mean time, or is it too much of a risk? I don't have much experience when it comes to failing PSUs.

Also, I was wondering what the chances are of my other parts being fried, as when this occurred for the first time, everything was running normally other than a couple of beeps from the MoBo (was in too much of a panic to turn it off to count them) before I shut it off completely in an attempt to spare them. I didn't actually notice the burning smell at first, it was a bright white light coming from inside the PSU itself that panicked me. I understand it's quite hard to tell with so little information, and I guess the only way to find out is to try the new PSU, but I'm just asking incase someone has experience on the subject to know the likelyhood.

Thanks.

Quite frankly, burning smells, glowing parts that shouldn't...I certainly wouldn't risk it. A lot of decent power supplies have decent protection in them to prevent damage, yours sounds a bit scary.

My last power supply made a rather nasty meltdown and thankfully it didn't take out anything. My mate's one went and took out his motherboard...you take your chances!

"burning smell" "bright white light"

I probably wouldn't turn that on anymore.
