Hey guys, I currently have 2 MSI R7870 Twin Frozr Ghz Edition in crossfire. I want to know if its worth upgrading to other cards like a gtx titan, gtx 690, gtx 780 or the 7990. I currently play on a 1920x1080 resolution and can play pretty much any game on their highest settings but I want to have my pc ready for next generation games. Should I stick with the 2 7870s or get something better?

More about : upgrade 7870 crossfire

For the time being, I see no reason to upgrade from your current GPU setup at your current resolution. If you're happy with their performance, stick with them for now. You could get a more powerful card sure, but down the road when you're no longer happy with the 7870 CF setup, the more powerful card will be cheaper or even more powerful.

Man... you still have enough power to run most of recent games with decent setting.
I would say stay for now, 2x 7870 is still badass here. :)

just keep it. only upgrading when you're no longer satisfied with it's performance. no need to get new card each time new series comes out. unless you got money growing tree at your backyard then it's another story :D

you will get an upgrade when amd releases a proper driver to remove crossfire stuttering and uneven frame spacing without even having to change your cards. They have a prototype driver out at the moment but doesn't work in all games.

Thanks for the quick response guys. You guys think my 2x7870s will be able to run battlefield 4 on its highest settings?

the game is not out yet so can't say anything right now. but looking up the official footage it might not much more demanding than current Frostbite 2.0

I would recommend saving until the radeon 9000 series comes out. Based upon numbers the 8970 should only perform on par or slightly better than the current 780. However, the 9000 series, and the top single GPU card being the 9970 should perform, based upon numbers potentially 100% better than the 780 and 8870. More reasonably however, would be an increase of say 60-80% as the ratio is not necessarily directly proportional. Furthermore it is expected that a new generation of gaming shall begin with the release of the 9000 and 800 series cards basing graphics on the new DirectX Blue (DirectX 12) Engine as a compliment to the introduction of Windows Blue. When I first saw the numbers I nearly cried lol, one 9970 has twice as many Stream Processors as an 8970.

Good dig on this old thread.
Let me clear up some things that you just posted so OP, if they read it, won't be misinformed. The 8970 you linked is an OEM card, a rebadged 7xxx series card. The 9xxx series is, supposedly, AMD's next card series as it seems they might skip the 8xxx series since it was released as OEM in the desktop GPU market and (I believe) an actual new introduction in the mobile market.

All that being said, if OP still has the crossfired 7870s and is still pleased with their performance, I see no reason to upgrade until the 9xxx series releases and we see how it stacks up.

Except for the fact that it's a massive Cpu hog and causes bottlenecks in any highend crossfire rig.

no, its not a cpu hog at all, its a gpu hog. an fx 4300 will run it at 60 fps solid. a high end crossfire rig is designed for multiple monitors. i can run bf3 60fps solid on a single gtx660 maxed out with 4xaa. but i dont play bf3 anymore because its a sh!t game.

Not with crossfire. Maybe a single GPU
