Opinions please: Do you think this a good build for a budget editing system (Adobe CS6)?

Well, as far as sound card goes, the important part is the Digital to Analog Converters. If you use a set of speakers connected by S/P-DIF, those are in the amplifier itself, not the sound card. If not, well, my opinion is that if you need a sound card for a speaker system, nothing consumer is going to do the job. Onboard sound is bloody good already, and anything else is at the least a very minor improvement.

Asus MBs are IMO overpriced for what they are. You won't see any real difference between that and say a GA-Z77X-D3H or ASRock Extreme4.

You're unlikely to need an extra case fan.

That PSU is overkill unless you intend to SLI in the future.

Do you need CUDA, or can you use OpenCL? If the latter, you REALLY want a GCN card. If...

I mean "budget" in a relative sense lol...Considerably cheaper than a non-budget build e.g. - Corsair Obsidian 800D, P9X9 WS, i7-3930K, GTX TItan, OCZ Vector, Corsair H100i, Seasonic P-1000 ATX Platinum, and 32GB of RAM...

uh yeah that,,,Well, the sound card is fairly cheap. I went with it to make up for the onboard sound not being quite as good as the expensive P9X79 boards. I suppose you are right tho.. it's superfluous to requirements. What other "excesses" are there?

Get the cheapest ODD you can, unless you need a BD drive.

You may want to wait and see what Haswell does to pricing, and you may be able to drop in a Broadwell chip, depending on what happens with the BGA mess. Or go the X79 way.

No SLI. Will probably stick 16GB of RAM in there though. Would a CX600 be enough?

Graphics cards are as vital for editing as for gaming. CS6 only supports CUDA enabled cards, but I read today that the next version of Adobe will finally enable hardware processing on AMD GPUs.

Anyway, thanks for your input, very informative.
