Hi All,

I'm trying to upgrade my Radeon 4670 card to a Radeon 6670. I've made sure that mobo (Intel DP55W) BIOS is current, and power supply is 650w. I uninstalled all the 4670 drivers, and card, and then installed the 6670, but on boot, the system hangs. I can't even enter the BIOS when I boot up w/ the 6670.

Basic Specs:
Intel DP55W Motherboard (no integrated graphics)
Intel Core i5 750 Quad Core
4gb RAM
650W Power Supply
Windows 7.

Fortunately, the 4670 re-installs fine, but I'd appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

if it doesnt have 1 attach a motherboard speaker and listen for post beeps. if it has a l.e.d. display whats the error number its stopping on.
check the 4pin atx lead hasnt worked loose.
check the rest of the cables for that matter.
turn off the pc completely at the wall for 30 seconds or until you see the motherboard led''s go out.

Thanks for responding.

There are no POST beeps, unless I hold down F2 to enter BIOS start screen. But when I press F2 to actually enter the BIOS setup, it is non-responsive for a bit, and then beeps steadily if I press any further keys. It looks like its hanging on POST at "5A."

Cables are secure in general. And the system boots fine with the 4470 card in place.

Code 5A is "Resetting PATA/SATA bus and all devices" remove all sata and pata devices (including ide) that arnt needed for booting. basically unplug all the hdds till you can get past the dmi update screen.

1s your dmi has been updated and your greeted with a white flashing cursor your pc has past post. you can now reconnect each drive and test boot.
you may also want to reset the bios or load optimized defaults befor and after each round of testing to make sure everything is detected properly...
so dont set ahci mode and dont disable ide support till your system is fully booting. you can adjust these 1s its up and running .

Again, thanks for the further suggestion. I ended up replacing the 6670 w a new 7750, and it installed like a dream. But I'm sure you were on the right track ...
