Hi all,

Bit of background info: I built a rig 2,5 years ago.
My current specs are:
MoBo: MSI P67A-C45,
CPU: Sandy Bridge Core i7-2600K CPU,
Memory: 16GB OCZ DDR3 SD ram, 1333 (667 MHz), 240 pin,
Graphics card: EVGA GeForce GTX 460 SE.

Top of the line at the time. Unfortunately, there was a problem with the 1. Gen (and 2. gen, I believe) SATA controllers from Intel, which is giving me problems now. I need to change my MoBo, but want to keep the rest of my setup, if possible.

After quite a bit of research, I've narrowed my wish list down to the following choices:

1) ASUS Maximus V FORMULA LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Extended ATX Intel Motherboard (USD 285)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131854

This looks like a great board, with more features than I could ever wish for. A bit pricey, but I like the 6x6gbs SATA, and on board wifi.

2) MSI Z77A-GD65 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS (USD 165)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130643

Not as featured packed as the the Asus above, but at just over half the price,I don't think i can rule this board out. Any reasons for paying the extra dough for the Asus above?

3) ASUS P8Z77 WS LGA 1155 Intel Z77 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard (USD 320)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131822

Very expensive option, and not the best specked board I have seen, but it has the features I need, if for some reason there's something I have overlooked with the other two boards.

I am not asking for anyone to make up my mind for me, I'm merely asking for suggestions, and would like to hear if there's anything I have overlooked in my research.

Any help is much appreciated.

Cheers, René

Why r u spending too much money on just a board. If u want a serious OCing then ASUS MAXIMUS V GENE is enough. U don't need formula for extra features because u can upgrade this board when u need. & which u save money spend it on ur GPU. Check new gtx 780 GPU. This is a decent GPU. U can play any game on high resolution with this GPU.
If u want to upgrade ur CPU too then u can choose i5-3570k. This CPU is enough for any game and u can oc it to 4.5ghz .
But wait for Intel's next gen mobo processors launch then get that for more future proof.

Thanks Prince,

I'm not specifically looking to waste my money, but I am looking to get the best board I can. Also, even though not really important, a micro ATX would look ridiculous in my HAF 932 case, I think.

As or your advice on GPU, I think you're spot on. However, this rig is not used for any kind of gaming, whatsoever. I'm only using it for Photoshop, and other photo editing software. Info I probably should've included in my original post. Apologies for that.

Once again, thanks for your input. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Cheers, René

There is not lot of differences between z77 chipset mobos my friend in performance, there is only difference of some features that we can upgrade.
Z77 chipset is 1155 socket mobos not much future proof that's why I said wait for 4th gen for best move & CPU& GPU too.

Thanks Prince,

Normally I'd be inclined to wait for the latest, and greatest. However, I did that with my current rig, and ended up with this problem. So, there are two reasons I'm not going to wait. 1) I wanna get something that has been tried and tested. 2) More importantly, my computer is U/S, and for that reason alone, I can't wait very long.

I completely agree with u. The next gen CPU mobos will not be tested we don't know how much performance increase or decrease. We don't know what & how much bugs come with that. But When they launch the price of IB will be drop then u can get much more in ur budget.
Ur 2nd reason I didn't understand well , so I can't say anything about that.
By the way best of luck for ur build my friend.

Thanks Prince,

What I meant by the second reason is that, my computer is U/S (unserviceable), ie. not working, so I can't wait for new technology to come out, and wait for the prices to drop.

Thanks again. Cheers, René

As an aside, I've been trawling the forum for various info. I've just found out there was a recall on Sandy Bridge (yes, I know, it been more than two years). What I can't figure out is, is the problem with the Sandy Bridge processor itself, or with my MoBo which has the 1. Gen chipset for Sandy Bridge on it?

Sorry for my ignorance, I'm not a techie, just a photographer trying to get my rig up and running again.
