Hi All,
I've been reading up on boosters but haven't found much on the technologies different brands use. The general ratings seem to be about how far they can transmit. I'm more interested in something that can deal with obstructions but doesn't have to go very far. My home is the proverbial brick $%@*house. The exterior walls are a foot thick, sheathed in 4/4 oak with full-sized bricks. All interior surfaces are double sheetrocked and probably have titanium paint.
The router and modem are at one end of the house and moving them would be difficult. There really wouldn't be one place on the property you could centrally locate them where they wouldn't have to go through some stout obstruction. iPad reception is OK at worst but signals get do get dropped. Stationary devices are ethernet wired but that doesn't help the tablets.
So, to the questions: are there different methods of boosting WIFI signals that bounce or bend better than others? If so, which brands incorporate that technology in their products? FWIW, I do have a wired ethernet feed to the other end of the house. The network map shows two networks -- one wired and one wifi. I can't think how that wire could help but when you know as little as I do, the world is full of surprises
Thanks, sh
