What's the big difference in this ASUS and other brands like alienware and Lenovo?

So I'm looking for a laptop for when I go to college. I want a laptop that can game pretty well for when I'm not in my dorm at my main desktop. So I was looking at gaming specific laptops like Alienware and such and they are at least $1500 for a decent gaming computer. For $1199 I found an ASUS laptop with an i7, 670M, 1TB hdd and such (the same if not better specs than the alienware)whereas the equivalent of this in a "gaming" specific laptop would AT LEAST $1500. Is there anything really that much greater about a gaming classified laptop besides maybe air flow maybe that I should spend $400 more for something that doesn't even have as good of specs as this ASUS laptop? Sorry if that's a little confusing but thank you for your answers!!!

Being labeled as gaming really means absolutely nothing, it is just marketing. You would really want to look at reviews to see if it is any better at cooling, screen quality, etc. Btw at $1200 is usually the 670mx, alienware is just overpriced all the time.

Okay yes I do believe it's the 670mx. I didn't really mean specifically the Alienware brand I just meant all gaming brands in general, Alienware,Lenovo,razer,etc..( not really lenovo but they have some pretty exapensive gaming rigs)

Even within brands, individual laptops can very drastically. Your best strategy is to look at the reviews of specific laptops, and not necessarily the history of each brand.

Usually the laptops marketed as gaming are laptops that sacrifice size and battery power for a discrete graphics card.

(Keep in mind that these laptops are not the best for taking notes ie) take up alot of space in crampt rooms, heavy to carry, bad battery life. Especially when you already have a desktop in your dorm)

lol don't mean to lecture, but those are just my observations as a college student :?
