I've been browsing and reading about this problem on the forum and still I can not find the answer so thats why im posting this.

How to find the best graphics card for existing CPU in general? And specific question, what would be the best graphics card for Athlon X2 4800+ ?

Thanx!

Solution
grab a 7750 or 650 you can get them for almost nothing. and they shouldn't be too handicapped by your cpu.

see if you can't hunt down a Athlon x2 6000+, your mb should support it... and you'll see a modest boost in performance. (probably get one off EBAY for like $30)

terrible advice. That's for web browsing or using Excel... it's not a gaming gpu. furthermore that gpu isn't even close to strong enough to use half a gig of memory, he doesn't need a 2gb of memory on that cheap workstation card. A 650/7750 will be rather cheap (their price has fallen like a rock this month) and give him a significant boost in gaming (don't bother getting a 2gb version of either card)
oi... that's old. most modern (even low end) gpus will be severely bottlenecked by that system. It's an AM2 right? what's your motherboard? it might be ideal to upgrade the cpu to a first gen PhII if possible. (depends on the motherboard)

as for gpus... they're price has been crashing down recently... you can get a HD7750 for like $70-$80, which would be more gpu then you need.

I've got:

M2N Asus motherboard
Athlon X2 AM2 socket 4800+ procesor
4 GB DDR2 800mhz
and this ancient graphics card Radeon X550 from year 2004 *embarrassing :)

I'm planing to buy later a complete new system, but im trying to balance this old one to get most out of it and leave it in the living room for Skype and FULL HD movies..

What would be the strongest card for this system? And in general, what specifications are you looking at when you want to make the best balance between CPU - GPU?

My motherboard has Expansion Slots
1 x PCIe x16 slot
2 x PCIe x1
3 x PCI 2.2

thosegraphics cards run on PCI3.0 as i checked on the net ?

Whats the best alternative for the slots that i have?

PCI-E is backward compatible. a 3.0 card will work on a 1.0 slot... just as a 1.0 card will work on a 3.0 slot.

there will be a little performance loss, but not much. you should be fine.
