Looking for a new graphics card

I currently have a Dell Inspiron 530s computer with an NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT graphics card. I NEED to get rid of it, lol. I can barely play Sim City 5 even with the lowest possible settings. I'm also a game developer and my 8500 just doesn't cut it.

My budget is $100 or less. Really low, I know, but I can't afford to purchase a super high-end card. I'd prefer to stay with NVIDIA, mainly because I'm scared to switch to AMD (I've only had NVIDIA cards my entire computer life).

I was looking at the GeForce 260 GTX, which seems nice, and I found one on eBay for $50. But I'm still very open to options. One thing I'm confused about is whether or not I need a low profile card. My dad says the PCI card has to be half height, but I'm not sure where he is getting that from. I even chatted with a Dell representative and he told me that I could certainly install a 260 GTX. I'm very confused about all this.

So anyway, what graphics cards would best suit my needs? Thanks. :)

The HD7750 will work just fine on a 300W. Just go for the one I suggested.

We actually upgraded the PSU sometime last year. I don't remember how many watts it is, and I think I can only find that out by opening up my computer. Not sure if I feel like doing it right this minute, I will check it in a little while.

That 7750 looks alright, but I would much prefer something better. If that means I have to get a new PSU, then so be it. :)

The 530s is a slimline chassis and requires a half height card, as a full height card wont fit into the case. The 7750 is the best you are going to get in a half height form factor in the $100 range. Was the Dell rep you spoke to a tech or a sales rep? They obviously didnt look up the specs on the 530s or were looking at the 530(non s) as it is a mini tower chassis and will fit a full height card.

Ah thank you. Forgot about the half height thing in the second reply. LOL

LOL, I guess I only upgraded to a 300W PSU! Yay! :/ Now that I think back on it, I only replaced it because the original one broke.

Now I guess I'll have to purchase a new PSU, as well. My search will continue. Thanks for your help! :)

^ Yup, unfortunately it is the 530s. I'm thinking I'd be better off just buying a completely new computer.

I agree there is no need for a new PSU, the 7750 is the best thing you can get in the low profile form factor and it will run fine on a 300w power supply. Also the core 2 duo's that shipped on the 530s will start to be the bottleneck with anything much faster than the 7750.
