Windows 7 goes into screensaver mode when I'm doing something in full screen

I'm either watching a movie on a video player offline, or using a flash player to watch something in browser, playing a video game on a gamepad or something else in full screen, and Windows 7 doesn't notice it and just goes to screensaver mode.

It didn't use to do this, but lately it does, I guess one of the updates messed it up. Is there a way to fix this? I don't wanna have to disable the screensaver, cause I need the password prompt, and I have to keep it up and running for work.

Not many people even use Screensaver nowadays, it only applied to CRT monitors to avoid Burn-in to the screen but is also good so others don't see what you are doing should you be away from the rig for a moment or two. You could set the timer to the highest level or just disable it.

Edit - You may need to consider logging out until you return to the PC.

Thing is, screensaver works perfectly for me, as it goes off automatically when I'm clearly not looking at the screen. I often wander out of the house and I can rely on that screensaver to make my PC inaccessible. Could I set out automatic log out? But I'd still need the system that detects full screen.

Do you use the default Windows ScreenSaver or are you using one that you have installed yourself?
Have you selected something from the screensaver list in Windows or are you using a screensaver picture or avi that you have downloaded?

A screensaver is a moving screen, The blank one is just black, better to choose "3D Text" or something. It shoudn't really matter however, it might depend on your screen resolution. Screensavers were originally designed to work on a screen no larger than 1024 x 768, so many of us are using more than double, if not triple, that resolution. Screensavers were not really designed for OSes later than XP, it's a carry-over from days of yore.

Considering that the resume with log on screen option is enabled, you should just log off when you leave the PC for any time.

I also get the same screen saver problem (on my XP PC), when the CPU is less than a certain level, it does go into a sleep or pause mode. I, too, will have to disable that option. Lots of video type processes use the video ram moreso than the CPU.

There are Power options you should consider disbling in the ScreenSaver > Power Options referring when to turn off the hdd and monitor etc. Set them to "Never".

I just picked an Avast screensaver, with an animation and scanning. Still the same issue.

What good will disabling the turning off of the monitor option do?

If you disable or choose never for the options, it means the monitor and the hdd do not turn off after a certain amount of time has passed. It's similar to sleep mode but not exactly like it. It can cause lagging and delays to just to wake it from "screensaver mode".

Just choose 3D_Texrt from the list, it's a simple animation, at least you can test it to see if the same problem occurs. I wouldn't be using an Avast screen saver with scanning, that will only slow down your system, with the scanning in progress.

Some screen savers that are downlaoded or come with programs have embedded code that might want to connect to the internet or do something unwanted.

Thanks, but none of this really solves my original problem...

Change the amount of time it goes to screen saver mode, if you really need to have the screensaver mode enabled.

Considering that this PC is used for "work", why are you playing PC games or watching videos on it? :)
