Trying to Install Win 7 Having Screen Freeze Issues

Hello,

I bought an HP laptop for my dad that came pre-installed w/ Win 8. He has dementia so needless to say trying to get him to understand it was an act of futility. I am trying to install Win 7. I disabled the UEFI option in the BIOS and deleted all partitions on the disc and reformatted the drive using NTFS settings.

I am trying to install from a USB powered optical drive. I am able to boot from the disc and get past the first screen that says "Windows is loading files", but it freezes on the Win 7 logo screen as the 4 colored parts are coming together to make the flag.

Not sure how to get past this, any help would be appreciated, thanks!

HP Laptops are notoriously problematic when downloading what model is it? Then we can work out if it was ever shipped as Win7 even if you get in the OS the driver support will be problematic if it has never supported 7.

  2. Hi There,

Thanks for the quick answer. It's a HP Pavilion 14-b120dx Sleekbook. I was able to get it to start booting up after I enabled CSM (which I didn't know about), but then ran into USB driver issues and couldn't complete the install. I went to HP's website and the only drivers they have are for Win 8. I was able to install using another USB port, and I hope the NIC card works "out of the box" so I can use Driver Genius and try to get compatible drivers without too much fuss. I'll keep updating on my progress, thanks again.
  3. Well, after all that Win 7 will not install, I get a general message saying it's not compatible. This really stinks and is hugely aggravating.

It might be better to use hacks to make win 8 look like win 7 as it is going to take alot of trial and error for even the chance of it working.
