Crossfire 4x & 16x?

I built my PC about October last year. I am going to buy 2 Video cards to run them in Crossfire X. My motherboard is the P8Z68-V LX and it has 2 PCI-E Slots one of them which is x16 and another which is x4. It supports Crossfire but will there be a performance drop since one of the slots is x4? Thanks.

What graphics card are you trying to Xfire?

To be fair, HD7850 and under will not lose much on x4 ports. BUT Xfire on anything lower than the HD7870XT/LE is just not worth it.

So no, I do not think you should Xfire on a X4 port.

Also keep in mind the microstutter issues with crossfire. With the newer testing methods they have been well publicized lately.

It says that the slot is x16 but runs at x4 im not sure. Could you check that out for me.

its not just a loss in performance, its the extra frame latency between cards the 4x slot creates that can make it run worse than a single card. 16x/4x is a no go for crossfire, it shouldn't even be supported imo. sli doesn't support 4x for that reason.

Agreed. But yeah. In some cases dual GPUs makes sense even on x4. Gaming is not one of them...
