I have a home build that's 2-3 years old now. A few months ago, the computer would spontaneously restart. Fearing old hard drives being an issue, in November I bought a new 1 TB WD Caviar Blue HDD to use as an internal drive to be the destination folder for My Documents and data in general. I think it was working well, but the computer more recently began spontaneously restarting and upon reboot would freeze at a black screen with long beeps before reaching BIOS. I haven't used the computer in a while, and just restarted it now and it booted fine, and I am writing this post on it. However, the new WD drive somehow lost its data and Windows asks if I want to format it whenever I try to access it. I didn't do anything to erase any data previously. I suppose it's possible that all along it was a faulty drive and/or somewhere along the way with the reboots it got wiped, but I'm hoping there is some way to recover the data that should be on it. I also bought an external Seagate drive to be a secondary backup, and for the most part the two drives have similar data but the WD drive had more recent documents and some data I never got around to transferring. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
