Dead Hard Drive?

I have a home build that's 2-3 years old now. A few months ago, the computer would spontaneously restart. Fearing old hard drives being an issue, in November I bought a new 1 TB WD Caviar Blue HDD to use as an internal drive to be the destination folder for My Documents and data in general. I think it was working well, but the computer more recently began spontaneously restarting and upon reboot would freeze at a black screen with long beeps before reaching BIOS. I haven't used the computer in a while, and just restarted it now and it booted fine, and I am writing this post on it. However, the new WD drive somehow lost its data and Windows asks if I want to format it whenever I try to access it. I didn't do anything to erase any data previously. I suppose it's possible that all along it was a faulty drive and/or somewhere along the way with the reboots it got wiped, but I'm hoping there is some way to recover the data that should be on it. I also bought an external Seagate drive to be a secondary backup, and for the most part the two drives have similar data but the WD drive had more recent documents and some data I never got around to transferring. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I unplugged a third hard drive I had going, which didn't help. But then I took the power line from my optical drive and instead connected it to the secondary HDD and it was recognized by the computer as before. All data seems to be intact. Seems like it is the power supply. Thank you very much for your help!
