Hello all,

I have a Dell Laptop XPS 14z. It was recently having some problems so I brought it to best buy where I have a warranty. They told me that the motherboard was deductive and replaced it. Now I brought the laptop home and the power adapter no longer works. I get an error saying that I have a 65w adapter (which is what came with the computer) and I need a 90w adapter. This is causing the laptop to run slow and won't charge...

Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?

Thanks!!

There are only a few different mainboard types for the Dell XPS 14" systems. Sounds like they replaced it with the beefier version with a slightly higher power draw. The good news is that the power adapter that your XPS uses has the more common connector. The 12 & 13 versions have a smaller form factor version and a more expensive adapter. However, you can probably find a 90W, 150W, or even a 210W power supply for your XPS. it'll use the same power adapter the Latitudes, Vostros, Precisions, etc. all use.

I'd first go back to Best Buy and explain the issue, and they might get you one for free. OR, just go to Dell and buy a larger one. might even find one on Craigslist, ebay, etc. Larger one will allow a faster recharge rate (and no annoying warning). FYI - with the unit powered off, it will still trickle charge at a a moderate rate.
