I have read in one review where the EVGA FTW Sig2 doesn’t cool the memory chips. SO the questions are:
Is that correct?
Is it different than the EVGA FTW or regular EVGA GTX 670s?
What are the potential downsides?
Also, is there any real need for 4 GB of memory? (the Sig 2 only has 2 GB).
Thanks.

I'd say that's not true. The most important change is the card's brand new dual-fan cooler promising solid cooling performance and low noise output. Clock speeds have been matched to that of the GTX 680, but i don't expect this card to perform like a GTX 680 due to its reduced shader count.

The GDDR5 memory chips are made by Hynix and carry the model number H5GQ2H24AFR-R0C. They are specified to run at 1500 MHz (6000 MHz GDDR5 effective).

All of the coolers I've seen use thermal pads on the vram and vrm's that connect to the main heatsink. It is rare that any card has their own heatsinks on the vram or vrm's.

Unfortunately, I've seen the thermal pads go bad, which leaves the vrm or vram to over heat.
