Both RAM sticks fail within hours of each other?

Okay, so my dad's laptop had 2 working stick of RAM this morning, now I don't think he has any. Both died within hours of each other, something that makes me think there is something else seriously wrong. Is this normal when RAM dies? Also, what could have caused this?

Edit: Crap I accidentally posted this in the overclocking section. How can I move it?

Its possible did you wear a wrist band while installing them did you touch and ground yourself to the pc, metal if any before installing them or maybe you got a bad set or that brand wont work with the lappy your dad has did you research online what brands work with the laptop before buying ?
