So around 8 months ago, my computer started having problems running certain software, games, and the overall preformance was low.. There were several possible causes, but ultimately, I decided it's time just to build a new system, keeping the Graphics card, and a new Cooling system I got as a gift and never opened.

So far I have:
Graphics: EVGA GeForce GTX 580
Cooling: Coolermaster V8

What I'm Probably Getting:
Case: Either a Thermaltake Chaser MK-1 or Coolermaster HAF 932
Drive: ASUS 24X DVD Burner
HD: WD Caviar Black 1TB

What I don't know:
So my knowledge lacks in the area of CPUs, Mobos, and Ram. I know I want an i7, but that's about it. I don't know how much ram I'd need for Video editing and gaming, and I don't even know where to start with the motherboard. Does anyone know what would work for my needs? Obviously the lower the price the better, but I am willing to pay a bit more for quality.

Thanks!

What kind of budget are you looking at? Will you be overclocking?
Here's a build i threw together assuming no overclocking. 16GB should be enough for video editing, and h77 motherboards are cheaper than z77 if you aren't overclocking.

My budget is around 700. I will not be overclocking. Also, I completley forgot about power supply. I have a rosewill 800w 80 plus

I really like the build, however I don't know if my budget will allow for a SSD, and I'm not sure about the motherboard. I read some bad reviews.

^ But only half the cores and thread count. Hyper-threading wont magically make up two cores worth of performance.

Temur's build is fine IMO, though if I were you I would wait a week and see what Haswell (the next Intel CPU series) brings to the table. Getting an equivalent Haswell rig could get you 10% better performance.
