ssd for gaming purposes

So I want to build a quality gaming PC and I'm thinking of getting a large solid state drive (512 GB) on which to store my favorite games (like Starcraft 2, ZombiU, Far Cry 3, Mass Effect 3, and Halo 4) So I want to know if this is a good decision to make? I mean getting an ssd for gaming purposes instead of a hard drive. What advantages will I gain if I use ssd instead of hdd for gaming? And finally is there any quality ssd someone can suggest me?

No, it won't have any impact on the gaming itself.

Get a 128GB hard drive. Put windows on it, all your programs, and games that see a benefit, like MMOs with long loading screens, or single player games like half life 2, where loading breaks immersion.

Other than that, games don't get a benefit from being on an SSD. Good quality ones include the Samsung 840 / 840 PRO and the OCZ Vector or Vertex 450.

In agreement with most of the posts so far, yes you will see no difference in the playing speed of your games.

However, the level loading will be much faster from the SSD than from an HDD.

Let me give you an example where this is a game changer. In the game EVE online as you undock your ship from a station you become a target (in lawless space) after a short while. The developers have set a short duration invincibility to allow for render lag. Depending on your internet connection and system setup this can be too short. With an SSD the space environment loads so fast that I can now undock a ship and set warp out before even a fast targetting enemy ship can get me. My survivability in that game has increased significantly by loading from the SSD. And that is quite separate from the immersion and continuity within the game, which is a bonus.

SSD, of course. :p

Oh, and Flying-Q, you just named the one example I gave where they're very helpful: MMOs. :p
Usually after windows and applications, you can still fit one or two of them, even big ones, on a 128GB SSD.

You are right about helping MMOs in general. The example I gave was where the difference is so significant that I can now win in the game where previously I just lost and lost and lost again.

I will just state the same as others have
It won't give you more FPS, but fast level loading in games in great
Before i quit playing wow, I would barely see a loading screen (except for times when it needed something from the net) changing zones was great, and loading BF3 maps up super fast is great as well on a SSD
