HDD may fail soon, install windows to other hard disks

Hi, i just bought a new 500 gb internal Toshiba hdd. I tried to format to enable installing windows, but i was unable to install windows (xp,vista, 7, 8,) although i could successfully format it to NTFS system.

Also, how many number of partitions can be made in 500gb?

You should be able to install windows to a previously written drive, however, if you are having issues, try deleting the volume ( un-format ) and let the Windows disk format the drive install the boot partition and the OS all in one step.
