I currently have 8GB of RAM, running on windows 7 64 bit, my processor is : AMD Athlon II X2 255 ( 2 CPUs) - 3.1 GHz
My current graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS
My screen resolution is 1280x 1024

I am wondering what I should update in order to play games on high setting such as WoW on ultra settings. I am trying to keep this update under $200 and I would like links to the items you tell me.

Solution
WoW is more cpu/memory intesive game than gpu... and your athlon is pretty weak :/ just by replacing graphics wont favor enough performance you are seeking for, plus any new gpu would be bottlenecking too. so you wont get the full performance of it.

if i were you i'd invest in the system like below...

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($79.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2 Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($49.98 @ Outlet PC)
Video Card: Galaxy GeForce GTX 650 Ti 1GB Video Card ($89.35 @ Newegg)
Total: $239.32
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and...

it is slightly over your $200 budget. but it will definitely keep things interesting and enjoying for you until you invest in a totally new system :)

good luck.

edit:
here is a AMD based gpu as an option for similar price and performance.

if you want to drop the prices a bit more;
-you can drop the previous GPU's i offered and get gtx650 or hd7750 instead they are like $30-40 cheaper. and will serve you almost the same...

Would this system be able to run wow and other games on high settings?

it would run many recent games just fine, with your current resolution especially which is not much demanding. it will run everything stable, but dont expect miraculous FPS though :)
well, for WoW type of games, you should be running high details with no problems.
well, for instance crysis3 kind of games, you should be running with lower details, since high details are like utopical.

edit: 650ti should be able to run 1080p (without AA) flawless and phenom x4 is a very good budget friendly quadcore which is able to run most of the recent gpu's without problems.

Haha okay, I don't really play crysis type of games, and all the parts you showed me will for sure work together? Like the CPU and graphics card fit into the mother board, I've wasted money before because I thought it would've worked .. I'm only 15 and I don't really have the money to make a mistake again haha
