Hello.

I'm putting together parts for a first time gaming pc build.

And I was wondering what would be the best psu.

Originally I had picked a 750 watt psu because I planed to crossfire down the road when a single 7970 couldn't handle games. But I have decided with some help that it would be better to just get a smaller psu at the start and get a whole new video card when the time comes that a singled OCed 7970 can't handle games at highest/high settings.

Anyway, TL;dr What are some good 500-600 watt power supplies?

A quick search on newegg pops these two up

Silverstone

And Crosair

I'm looking for either modular (more preferred) or semi modular (Still good but I'd rather it be completely modular)

Thank you for your time.

Could you post some specific ones? Preferably on newegg or amazon.

Forgot to add.

What do you mean by 'overpriced'? It's the same price as all the other 500-600 psu's I see on newegg.

How come the ones you linked earlier has a lower rating?

The corsair one has better reviews on newegg.

I'm pretty new to this stuff. So I've been going on reviews and advice mostly. But a lot of the psu's posted have worse scores than the corsair one.

Ratings on newegg really don't mean that much - they're only useful to tell if the product has a single, often-occurring flaw.

I'm not sure what you're talking about, as I didn't link anything, but my guess is because people are fanboys, and Corsair has been around a long time. Someone who buys a less-well known product is less likely to go write a review of it. (And thus simultaneously show off that they own it.)

Bear in mind, though, that what you want is a power supply that's made by seasonic, no matter what brand name it has on it. They're far above any other PSU manufacturer when it comes to quality.

Remember alot of the reviews are based on the price they pay and the results within a week or so at most. You don't see anyone going back and say this psu failed after 2 years and took my GPU with it. You see that kind of thing in these forums.

I agree with Dark Sable about the reviews. they are useful to tell you if there are alot of DOA's and a single flaw. Look at harddrives above 2 tb. They are still having a quality control issue across the board and that is shown in the reviews.

As far as good manufacturers I would rank Seasonic and Super Flower about even. Delta and Channel Well are very good. After that it goes downhill. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/power-supply-oem-manufacturer,2913-4.html

They used to make their own supplies and were quite good. Then they were bought by OCZ and started using crappier supplies. Now most of them are made by Seasonic or Super Flower.

Ah. My apologizes. I remembered wrong. I thought that you had linked some when it was another user.

Thank you for the answer. I will get that in mind on future endeavors.

Would This power supply be good?

Excellent! Highly recommended. Good price for a gold modular Seasonic supply.

Very good, yes. That's what I usually recommend if this one isn't on sale. It's pretty much THE best power supply out there. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151088 Even for $120, it's a good price; I've seen sealed ones sell for two hundred.
