So ive been using an old wrt54g wirelessly for my laptop, tablets, and ps3, but I have just recently started using my desktop wireless and connected my tv and voip for gvoice. I am running dd-wrt but only thing i mess with in settings is port forward.
Im supposed to get 50mbs and on direct connect to the router i only get 34, when i use my laptop i get around 13, and using my desktop wireless adapter(alfa us036h) i might get around 10-12
There is many wireless networks around me ( and I have alrdy changed to use the best channel speed wise) so someone recommended i use a dual band router. Everything i use is on the same floor and i can even see router where im from on desktop which is farthest item.
I saw a lot of raves of ASUS RT-N66U and right now newegg is running promo to get wireless adapter for around $140 which i think i should need because my current one only runs G.
But since my needs are basic im not sure what benefits I would get from getting for example a tplink 3600 for $66 or tplink4300 for $79 but I would still need to get a usb wireless adapter and dont know which one to pick.
Based off of my needs would i really benefit for n66u (would the price difference really be worth the extra options for me in the future if so such as?, eventually i would plan to use on 2-3 floor house but not atm) or any other recommendations ?
Hoping to make my mind up today as newegg promo w adapter ends today
Thanks
