Ok I have a SSD as my primary and 4 other hdd for storage. A lot of time if I click to view a hdd's contents it takes a few seconds for it to load and then I have to wait on the thumbnails to load. What makes this happen? I have a 920 with the p6t motherboard and 6gb 1333 ddr3. I am thinking of upgrading to the 4770k next week When haswell comes out. But can anyone tell me if anything I can do to keep it from loading all the time? Btw 2 of those drives are 3tb barracuda's and one of them only had about 200gb left before I deleted some stuff but the other is only about halfway full.

If they're storage drives separate from the system drive what may be happening is that they spin down when not active and have to be spun up again when you try access something after not using it for a certain time. There is an option in the Power Settings under Control Panel to prevent Windows from deactivating HDDS when not in use which can eliminate these delays.

Under Advanced Plan settings, go to the Hard Drives and click the plus sign to expand, select turn off after 0 minutes (0 actually means never)

Yeah that seems like what is happening because I can hear it spinning up. Thanks a lot. I'm at work now and will try this after I get home.
