Yes but no. Physically it will work, technically it's stoopid. Memory should always come in pairs to take advantege of dual channel. You seem to have done that initially but the single stick of slower memory will not do your system any favours over another 2x4gb of your existing memory. Your 1600 capable memory will run at the slower clock speed of the other memory. Don't do it: it's a downgrade.
 
it will work, but you will gain up 2 10% performance with just 2x4GB because they run in dual channel, which will not work with 3 chips installed.
So IF you use something(not gaming) that uses more than 8GB of RAM, then you should add it, otherwise, you should not.
