What would be considered "waste of time overclocking resuts"??

Hey Guys I had my evga gtx660 ti SC card for a while now....been having some problems with nvidia's drivers CONSTANTLY crashing...but anyway...what I want to know is...."Artifacting"...is this those little blue specs I see when i run Furmark?
When I run it i would see some blue specs appear and disappear ever so often with my OC active. I started my OC high and gradually came down lower till i saw no artifacting.

First I OC the memory till i got a no artifacting at +110 in Afterburner. Then the Core to +65 without any memory OC. When I combined the two, the artifacts returned...and I gradually reduced the Herts till I no longer see any artifacting...Now the problem is...ITS SO SMALL.... on my Core clocks I only have +35 and on the memory only +90.

With these settings I see no artifacting but does it really make a marginal difference considering how low the numbers are??? If i put them at anything higher i get alot of artifacting or the driver stops working...

Every chip manufactured will be different from every other chip. Some will oc higher than others. That being said, +35/+90 while a small overclock, isnt completely insignificant. Depending on the game you will see a few fps increase with that OC.

As long as your temps are fine with your OC, it should be ok to run it.

P.S: Also higher OCs (depending on your specific chip) may require a higher voltage in order to get a stable OC without crashes and artifacts. You may get a higher stable OC if you increase the voltage, however if you are new to OC, or do not have adequate cooling this is NOT recommended, since you may burn your card and void your warranty. Also overvolting too high even with adequate cooling will simply fry the card.

Yeah I am a noob when it comes to OC...I have done quite a bit of reading on many forums and I came to my own conclusion that I will not be increasing voltages at all on my card. Im just wondering if I might as well leave Afterburner settings at +0 for each

Well, its your call tbh. 660 SC has stock speeds of 1046. So your oc of 35 is an increase of ~ 3.3%. You will see similar gains in fps depending on your game (anywhere between ~ 2 - 3%). As long as your temps are fine, if you think that gain is something you want, leave your OC be, if you think that gain is too trivial (which atleast imo is trivial, but you never know when you need those few extra fps to run a game @ ultra with playable fps), then leave it at +0/0.

Personally, I would use the minor overclock (assuming it is indeed ~20-30min stable in afterburner with no artifacting) for 3 reasons:

1. You took the time to figure out the max OC on stock voltage

2. It will provide an increase in fps (albeit a small one).

3. You have nothing to lose (as far as I know, hardware degradation correlates to heat/voltage and not the overclock frequency.)

My 2 cents.

Thank you all for your 2 cents! I decided to leave everything at +0/0 OC takes too much time to figure out what the sweet spot is...yesterday I was tinkering for maybe 10+ hours...
