Phenom II temperature rises...

Well today I decided to clean my desk and my subsequently my computer. It's about 2 months old, built by myself. It had a bit of dust in some spots, but I noticed the heatsink fan had quite a bit of dust in the strip parts, so I decided to take it out and use a can of "Air" on the part where the dust seemed to be hauled up.

All went well except that when I was putting the CPU back in, I noticed it was sort of... Err.. "Wobbly". I found it strange because when I first put the CPU in it slid perfectly into place with no effort. So I gently lifted it up and examined the pins to find that 1 pin in the top left where the arrow is was very slightly bent. Not extreme, but enough for it not to go into it's slot, so I used my pinky and bent it just enough for it to fit back in it's slot. I damn near had a heart attack because I was afraid it wouldn't work, but the computer has booted fine and everything works.

However now that I've used my PC for a bit I've noticed that the idle and load temperatures have changed quite a bit. It's temperature used to idle around 35-38C and now that I've played Skyrim for a bit it hasn't gone down from 44. I'm pretty worried because I don't and won't have the money to replace this CPU if it overheats... Is it ok to continue playing? I'm thinking my problem maybe that the thermal paste (which was stock), isn't holding up. A little of it rubbed off on my hand when I was placing the CPU back in, but I didn't think much of it. Could that be the problem? I was planning on buying more on Friday, but until then is it safe to play any CPU intensive games?

CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 965 @ 3.4ghz

Solution
whenever you take out your cpu cooler you MUST replace the thermal paste. clean off both the CPU and cooler with some rubbing alcohol (90%), apply new paste and reattach the cooler.

So the paste is most likely the problem... Is it ok for me to do anything intensive until Friday or would it be too dangerous?

i have two answers.

1) it would be irresponsible for me to suggest you use a cpu without proper cooling. generally speaking what you're discussing could destroy your system, so i suggest you keep that in mind. what's the harm with going to best buy tonight, getting some Arctic Silver for $8 bucks, go to the dollar store, get some rubbing alcohol and cue-tips for $2 total, for $10 you safeguard your system, and don't have to play roulette

2) you can safely run a PhII up to 55C... make of that what you will.

I said Friday because I don't have $10 to spare at the moment :/ I'll take the better route and stick to less-intensive tasks...

Thank you for your answers.
