my gateway nv59 laptop running windows 7 will not recognize my new western digital 3.0 TB external hard drive. can anyone help???

Data storage capacity has surpassed the programmed maximum of some operating systems. @3TB You need software to allow you to use such a large capacity disk drive. That software came with my motherboard, perhaps not with yours.

Search for terrabyte unlock software.

neither WD or Microsoft had any downloads that have helped resolve this. what software are you referring to???

TBH I've had a hard time looking up free software too. Are you sure there was no disk with your hard drive?
