I just picked up the 3TB green by WD and im planning on using this as storage to work with a limited HDD running Win7. I want to put all ht games and programs on the 3TB and run them from there.
My question is: I purchased the "green" edition WD, can i still run the drive heavily on a daily basis even though is runs "lighter"?

Solution
It doesn't run "lighter", it tries to run more energy-efficient as in if you're not using it. You can use it actively on a daily basis and it'll be fine. It does go to sleep eventually which makes them terrible NAS/RAID drives, but you shouldn't need to worry. :)

Ya... but the constant going into sleep mode and waking up is a pain in the ass sometimes. I had one as a media storage HDD and every time i wanted to play some video off of it, it has to take a couple seconds to spin up lol.

It shouldn't have much time to sleep. I will be using that drive the most. There would hardly be a time when something wouldn't be running from it. So I shouldn't have any issues, right?

Ya. if you're constantly using it, then it would not go to sleep mode.
