Better GPU than the 660.

I wouldn't trust that PSU. Case+PSU combos are rarely a safe choice.

I know the feeling. I was scrambling to include a 7870 XT in the build, but I couldn't quite make it fit. Perhaps if we swap the i5 for a FX 6300?

Will run BF3 on ultra and all that.

I believe that OP already has an HDD,

Also, I don't think that can run BF3 at max at 1080p. High, sure, but I doubt max.

Edit: Did some tweaks. How's this look?

Go for an FX-6300 or an i5, esp. if he wants to play multi-player (as 99% of BF3 players do) multi-core really helps. I don't think the i3 will quite cut it.

This is my pitch:

PCPartPicker part list

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor ($114.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: ASRock 960GM/U3S3 FX Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($60.97 @ Newegg)
Memory: Crucial Ballistix 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($55.25 @ Newegg)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 XT 2GB Video Card ($248.98 @ Newegg)
Case: NZXT Source 210 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($39.99 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: XFX 550W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($54.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $575.17

You can also pick out a half decent case for under $600 too, if you don't want to be staring at that uggo Source 210 forever.

No actually the 660 can run BF3 on Ultra, 1080p and all that.

Really? My research had indicated that it would only get 45-50 FPS on Ultra. It's certainly possible that I am incorrect, however.

Fair point. I just tend to figure that folks will assume that "run at [whatever setting]" means "get 60 FPS at [whatever setting]", and will extrapolate from there. That's always been how I've looked at things. May be in the minority there, however.

Interesting build. Weaker than what we have here, but cheaper as well.

As a PC gamer, I personally can't stand much below 60 FPS at all. It just feels so clunky to me. It's even more pronounced in a competitive multi-player shooter like BF3.

I've got to side with Jack and say a GTX 660 a tier below what I'd recommend for Ultra on BF3. After all, even if everything is playable @ 30 FPS =/= enjoyable @ 30 FPS.

Well that's because you're used to a higher standard.

Same as once you try a 120Hz, 60Hz just feels slow(er).

People who have been used to low graphic settings will be very happy to

turn down the settings to High, medium or even low, if they can get to enjoy their game.

Great FPS is absolutely love though of course.
