Infomation on buying more storage

Hi, recently my laptop is starting to take a hit from lack of storage space. So I am planning to buy a external storage device. However I am not exactly certain what to get. Here are a few questions?

1. external SSD or external HDD?

2. Is 1TB necessary for long videos and editing as well as game design?

I appreciate any suggests on external HDD or SDD and a bigger appreciation to all that answers the two question ^^.

For external storage, always go with an HDD.

1TB is nice because HDDs are pretty cheap and it's a lot of storage.

And if you want storage, you don't go with an SSD, because they can't store as much

and even when they get to the 1TB mark, they'll be unbelievably expensive. In a few years

time that will change however. So get a 1TB 7200 RPM external HDD for back up.

When/if you get a desktop, an SSD is really good because it's faster and more reliable than a

conventional HDD. It's also more expensive, yet silent. SSDs make things boot faster if you place

your OS on it. It's not so suited for things like videos, because videos tend to be big files and you don't

want a 120GB or 256GB SSD which is expensive, to get filled up with...

It doesnt sound like you have one already to do backup to so I'm recommending you get two drives. you have choices.

1: You can replace your internal drive with a bigger one and backup to an external.
or
2: you can get 2 externals. One will be your backup drive.

I'd recommend option 1 as it saves you from carrying an external drive with you everywhere and we all know you will eventually drop it if you do that.
You can migrate the contents of your current drive to the new drive using a usb transfer kit or usb/sata cable and the drive manufacturers free software.

I use my dad's hard drive for backup but is inconvenient for me to use cause he also back up his pc on it.

I think I will go with a HDD cause storage is my purpose, my OS already starts up stupidly fast :p. I was think maybe a seagate expansion desktop because I have heard good things about it, anyone had any experience with this drive?
