All depends on your eyes. I'd recommend going into a store that carries both and have a look. Seen several folks state that up to 24" at 1080p is good but going to 27" you need 1440. But... I was in a store with an Asus 27" 1080p and I thought it looked great.

There really isn't much of a difference either way. I have a 23" 1920x1080 as a secondary and it looks fine. I can't imagine an extra diagonal inch would make it look terrible.
