I plan on buying the asus VG248QE 24in monitor and currently I have a nvidia gtx 580 3GB which I plan to upgrade as well. Can my graphics card be compatible to play games at 144hz and what will be the difference?

144Hz will feel very smooth and will allow for higher FPS.

I think if the resolution is Full HD (1920 x1080p) that your GPU will handle it.

Don't take my word for it. Depends on how hard you pressure it.

Since when are GPUs human?

Anyway OP... You will benefit from it, but in games that your GPU struggles with(Crysis3, BF3, Metro Last Light), you will not get the full 144Hz.
I usually tell people to get a 120Hz monitor instead as the difference in price is huge but the actual dif is small. Since most GPUs can not even exceed 120FPS anyway.

Ok but if I where to try to play the latest games on 144hz will I loose frames? Or does the monitor auto-adjust itself to its capabilities?

If your GPU can not play the latest games at 144FPS, then it will just play at whatever FPS it can handle. You will not "lose frames" in the way I understand you asking.

I do plan on upgrading my graphics card to a dual gtx 680 sli or maybe I should wait and get a dual gtx 780 sli. What should I do?

Like I said, my opinion, get a 120Hz monitor(save the extra money towards new GPU). Then get one GTX780, if you still need more GPU grunt, add another.

If i were to play in a single monitor at 1080p about how much frames will I receive if I were to use a 780 vs a dual gtx 680?

I can not suggest 2 GTX680s as they are overpriced and deliver no more than 10% improvement above a GTX670 which is MUCH cheaper.

So either consider 2 GTX670s or a GTX780. Even though 2 GTX680 would be better than one GTX780, you would be paying to much for what you get.
