New build, just wondered if anyone had experience with these components

Does anybody have any experience or horror stories about these boards and processors?

Links:
AMD FX-4350 Vishera 4.2GHz
ASUS M5A97 R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970

Also picking up 8gigs of Ballistic Sport, and yanking the PSU and graphics card out of the old system.

Alternatively this package deal seems fairly equivalent.

I'm trying to keep it fairly low budget. Any recommendations or feedback?

Thanks for any info.

I got the same motherboard and it's phenomenal. Just avoid putting the cage. Had to reassemble the whole PC after that. The processor is decent as well. Upgrade to a 6300 if you can. Finally, what's the PSU and GPU? (Brand and model for both, please.)

Thermaltake 450w, though I've got access to a 550
PNY Gtx550Ti -due for an upgrade, acceptable for now though

What's "putting the cage?"

lol, meant the port shield. Anyway, that Thermaltake might not cut it. The FX series is VERY power hungry. 450w would be fine if it was from Corsair, Antec, XFX, or Seasonic, but not for Thermaltake. Same for the 550w.

I think I will go for the 6300. Right now I'm using an old Phenom II quad, 2.4. So anything's going to be a step up. As for use, some casual gaming, not obsessed with maxing out the graphics. Otherwise, just general usage, and booting up photoshop every now and then.

Rog. I wasn't sure about the power req's on the FX series. New PSU was on the list for upgrades down the road, guess I'll just bump it higher on the priority list.

Out of curiousity, what happens when you have an insufficient power supply? Risk of damage? Or just failing to POST?

Crashing, failing to boot, and the machine exploding are a few of them.

Good quality power supplies turn off if they get too hot

real cheapies start burning

If you follow the guidelines here

and only buy 80+ bronze or better rated psu's then you should be fine .

[ just be aware that some coolermaster psu's have been sold as 80+ but they do not have active PFC , and they do have a small red or black voltage switch on the back which is a sure sign that they are not ]
