Buy another 1 GB stick. Or a single 2GB one if your motherboard only has one slot. Only thing to do is run windows in crap mode (basic) AND turn off your Anti Virus (nor recommended) and shut down running programs.
Cheapest and most best way is to get more ram. You will feel the difference.

You didn't mention if you are using win7 32 bit or 64 bit. The 64 bit version's system requirements is 2 gig of ram. You should probably install more ram anyhow.
