I'm looking to upgrade and water cool my build this summer and I've been looking at forums for which 7970 has a reference PCB design so I can use a full body water block. I've heard that the Sapphire 7970 OC has the original PCB design, but wasn't sure because I could've sworn that they have changed the design.

Solution
be very carefull when using die's in water cooling loops. they almost ALWAYS clog the system.

the dye breaks down, stain your tubing, will stain the Perspex in the reservoir and block. and a lot of the time will clog the water blocks and restrict / stop water flow.
This is not a matter of it "might happen" it WILL happen.

you are much better off using coloured tubing with just demineralized / deionised water with a couple of drops of liquid utopia.

I was thinking about using an EK block, but I heard they don't have a database. I'll check though.

Why did you change to Heatkiller? Something wrong with EK besides the problem they had before?

I do like the look of them, but I was wanting a water block that would be transparent to show off the liquid.
Which brand makes the best 7970? I'm looking into a Sapphire, but I've heard good things about Diamond its just hard to find their cards. I'm wanting to OC the card to about 1100mhz if I can.

Really? I thought there was some coolants that had coloring in them. If that's a problem then I'm going to have to use a different res because I was going to go with this one: http://www.ekwb.com/shop/reservoirs-and-acc/reservoirs/ek-bay-spin-reservoir-acetal-csq.html
And if you got up to 1260mhz then I'll probably try to get it around there too. I've never OC'd a GPU before so it should be fun! Haha

there are some coolants with colouring in them yes. these also have problems. Mayhem Dye's were quite bad for it. some say they are better now.

others just accept that adding dye also adds the very real and high risk of damage to the loop, from staining and clogging.
by far a safer option is run with colored tubing.

all of these systems you see with bright vibrant coloured coolant are just display systems that only need to run the coolant for a week or so. (like the one in your link for the reservoir)

I stopped using Ek water blocks on my 7970's as they changed the design of there 7970 waterblock in the middle of my build, so i couldn't easily join a 1st series block to the newer block, so i sold it and moved to Heatkillers, which look fantastic

Oh okay, also which Sapphire did you get? There's a couple different ones.

I think NCIX has it. Also, do you know anyone who sells red UV's? If so I'm probably going to get UV reactive tubes.

Oh okay then. I found the card at Amazon and I'm surprised at how much I can get it for. Thanks for the help!
