I'm getting a custom gaming computer built online and I wanted to know, what kind of ram will I need to play games like battlefiled 4 and the next cod without having to upgrade in the near future? I just don't want to overpay and get a whole bunch of ram that I don't need

If it is an AMD processor, get the fastest ram your motherboard/processor can handle. If an Intel, 1600 will do fine. Intell has a far better cache/RAM controller than AMD and anything faster than 1600 has very little advantage. As for the amount of ram, I'd recommend 16GB now. 8GB has always been enough for gaming, but we seem to be creeping up to that amount. 16GB will give you a great buffer to last you for years.
