Hi All

I have been trying to learn python on http://www.codecademy.com/#!/exercises/0 but I find it doesn't give you real life programming experience.

Does anyone know if there is a free online manuals which shows you how to do maintenance etc on your computer using coding?

What kind of maintenance? And I would assume that the only reason that you're trying to learn Python is because you don't know the language, or are inexperienced with the language. Otherwise, it wouldn't matter if the site provided you with real-life experiences or not.

And system maintenance via python is not very common.

Do you know of any script you can run on your personal computer to improve the computer. Do you know of any cool stuff you can do on your computer using script?

I hear that server administrators use script to do things on the server and computers they maintain.

Short answer: It is possible to do all of the above. Whether or not you have the programming skills and knowledge to write the program is your problem.

I do the following at the moment;

1. Disk Error Checking
2. Defrag
3. Disk Cleanup
4. Registry clean up with Vit Registry Fix9.5
5. Delete Browser history
6. Do windows updates
7. Do Anti Virus updates
8. Run C Cleaner
9. Restart computer at least once a day
10. Update Drives
11. Run Microsoftfixit.windowfilefolder and run microsoftfixit.performance
12. I go to start-system configuration, click on start up to see that there are no programs running in the background when the computer starts.

I turn off the work computer at night as it is better for the components and hard drive of a computer to only work for 8 hours a day instead of 24 hours a day, the computer will last longer?

I also dust off the computer if need be.

What else should I be doing to maintain a computer?

Don't do all that. That puts more strain on your HDD. And if you're running a SSD, then you're killing it faster. Honestly, you overdid it and that can be just as detrimental to the health of your system, if not more so.
