I have a Asus p5q pro turbo motherboard.

Currently I have 2x2gb OCZ flex xlc 1200mhz ddr2 ram intalled on one channel, which have been discontinued.

Can I install ram with a different speed, like 2x2gb Crossair dominator 1066mhz on the other channel?

All installed ram wil run at the same speed, timings and voltage. You could downclock the faster ram but you still need to worry about the other specs matching. Matching sticks would be in the same colored slots. Also it's not worth it buying ddr2 ram.

The RAM needs to be the same speed and timings to work correctly. The OCZ will probably work at DDR2 1066. It would not matter much as far as overall speed goes because Core2 chips like a 1:1 RAM/FSB ratio anyway. Makes anything over DDR2 1066 a waste unless you have a custom water loop and a very highly overclocked CPU.

Edit: And like K1114 says DDR2 is extremely expensive compared to DDR3. I think I would stick with 4GB until you can do a system upgrade.

thanx all for your replies...I appreciate it.

I'm leaning towards just spending the bucks on ram as I need the pc for work...dont have the cash right now for an upgrade.
