Hi,
So I'm running a rig with a sahpphire 2g ddr3 HD6570 (low end but its for analysis, not gaming) and I recently picked up another HD6570 (HISiceq), however when i go to boot up, I either enter my password and the screen goes black or it'll freeze at the loading widows screen.

I really can't see the problem the mobo is set up for dual video cards + crossfire, the cards have identical drivers and chipsets (and are also crossfire ready, although they lack a bridge connector), and my PSU should be big enough.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated - I've been pulling my hair out for hours. Maybe I'm just missing something obvious but this is really bothering me - having a second set of outputs shouldn't be that difficult..

My system is:
CPU: AMD FX8320
MoBo: Gigabyte GA-970A-D3
PSU: 700w Raidmax RX-700AC

I've tried:
Just adding the other card: Makes screen output dissapear after login
Both cards (individually) in both PCIe slots : works
Uninstalling the drivers, installing the cards, reinstalling the drivers: Causes window to freeze at load
Looking at BIOs options: the mobo has useless bios options so far as I can tell.
Disabling the driver of one card, installing the other card and booting: Works but as soon as I enable the other card it needs to restart, and cant load windows.

Your answer may lie in the fact that you do not have a bridge connector, which is necessary for a Xfire configuration.

Try this: pull the second card and boot. If you can boot into windows set the video configuration for a single card. Only put the system into to Xfire after you have added a bridge connector.

Erm you may want to look at this thread also:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/389647-33-catalyst-black-screen-bsod
It's a long read but basically there's a problem with crossfire on a 970 chipset and with cards earlier than the 7xxx series. To rule out this problem you could try installing the 12.10 drivers, which are the latest drivers that did have not have the issue.

Thanks guys,

Chesteracorgi - I think the low-end cards lack a xfire bridge as the PCIe apparantly handles it (I guess 6570s don't xfire much at best). But seriously, there are no xfire ports even if I wanted to bridge so that option is out. The cards are xfire ready, every shred of doccumentation I can find points to them xfiring via PCIe which does admittedly seem weird..

Mahisse - Thanks I'll try that now-ish ^_^

Cheers,
Ben
