hi

a friend recently had his hard drive corrupted and we simply could not get it to insall vista. As it was a DELL laptop in Uk, they didnt give us the vista recovery discs as these were on a hidden parition on HDD. this is of course of no use when HDD is corrupt!

So bought a new hard drive and finally managed to borrow a vista DVD from another friend. After few more problems we got there and have got basic vista installed. will get service packs and drivers installed as we go on.

Question is, to prevent this annoyance of this happening again we want to create a recovery disc. Think there is an option to create one from control panel, though i dont exactly know where.

are there any other better options than the recovery disc to repair / reinstall vista in future if there is another problem.

The problem with Vista is that there is no recovery utility, per se, it only creates a back up of your own files and folders and not the OS system files, you need to have a System disk for the recovery or Repiar options. It might be worth doing though, and there are other options in the utility.

Start > All Programs > Maintenance > Backup & Restore
