Hi Everyone.

Currently I'm using a Samsung np300v5a 15'6 laptop. I play Battlefield 3 and Need For Speed: Most Wanted 2012. I get from 19-25 FPS on both these games but there is still a considerable amount of lag.

My Specs: i5 2430 2.4 Ghz, 4gb ddr3 ram, Nividia 520mx (1gb dedicated)

What could I do to improve my performance?

I could upgrade to 8gb (I have a free slot woth enough space for another 4gb.

Thanks

I upgraded my HP laptop from 4GB to 8GB RAM. I loved the extra RAM but it didn't help in gaming. Sorry to say, the weak link is your 520m. You can not improve gaming performance with RAM on a laptop. I experienced this and realized what was needed..bought a desktop and never looked back.

You can remove RAM and HDD in your laptop but everything else is soldered down.

indeed. I agree totally.

i've been down the same road before. you dont have much choices other than increasing memory capacity and replacing the old hdd to ssd, but neither will increase your gaming FPS as you aim. (maybe a slight boost which you probably wont even notice but nothing more)

but ofcourse for general usage you will like how it effects all the system. if I were you I would either invest in a gaming notebook or a simple desktop with a dedicated gpu.

good luck.

ofcourse, if you are going to sit in front of a desk all the time there is no point in purchasing a notebook. but some people may actually want mobility for their system...

True. People want to game in a coffee shop or during a lecture. Come on now. My "gaming" laptop sat on my desk at home when I played games. Friends have shared the same sentiment. Now, we game as before, but on desktops.

If you want to game get a Sager laptop.

I totally agree with most people, Get a desktop, But, Since your probably wanting to stick with this system:

Download Ccleaner, Run it, Virtually check everything, Unless you get an warning screen, then just untick it. Here is something i wrote earlier for ccleaner:

Temp internet files: Removes basic files that make browsing a tad faster, although to many files dont change anything, it will slow down your computer, and eventually eat harddrive space.

History: Self explanitory

cookies: Stored files for websites that will store information (Like flash games, when you save it, the info gets put into a cookie, if you play flash games, and dont want to loose your progress, uncheck this box)

Recently typed url's: Self explanitory

Index .dat files: Just leave this box, trust me, you wont notice anything. Just some more Temp files

last download location: This is for websites, when you go to recent downloads, that is where the website where you downloaded anything will be, if you dont want to loose it, uncheck the box.

autocomplete form history: This is when you have passwords, or emails, when you type a quarter of the email, it kinda knows what your gonna type, so it puts it in there. If you dont want to loose this functionality, uncheck the box.

Saved passwords: Self explanitoty

Windows explorer
Leave everything checked except "saved Network passwords" or else you end up having to put the password to an internet connection (wireless) back in.

System

Empty recycling bin: Self explanitory

Temporary files: Files saved by the operating system (windows). You leave this checked unless you want a slow computer..

Clipboard: Temp files for notepad. Just temp files in general.

Memory dumps: Well, if your not a computer geek, this is hard to understand, but, it keeps track on what your ram dumps of temp files everytime your restart, Just leave it checked.

ChkDsk File fragments: This is when you defrag your system, i recommend O&O Defrag, its not free, but, there is a license that a friend gave me that has unlimeted uses, anyways, This stores info on what your system moved around, this will usually slow the computer down, so leave it checked.

Windows log files: Self explanitory (Files that hold what windows did in the past seconds.Leave unchecked if you do periodic log file checks)

Windows error reporting: Self explanitory, leave checked

DNS Cache: Leave checked.

Font cache: Self explanitory, leave checked.

Start menu shortcuts: This is for the OS (operatinf system) But, check it, since it will slow down browsing speed.

Desktop shortcuts: It is not what it sounds like, This is for the OS too, so, check it, and be happy.

Advanced

Anything with a * Means Check it

Old prefetch Data*

Menu order cache*

Tray notifications cache

windows size/location cache

enviroment path*

User assist history

IIS Log files*

Custom files and folders*( Now, you may be thinking you wil lose your folders on your desktop, these are not custom folders, these are folders that actually do a purpose for the OS, Leave checked)

Now, click Applications, Check everything, except for saved passwords, and MS Antimalware, if you have them. Then, you should be set. Click "Run cleaner" And wait, this will take 5-10 minutes, for the first time, then, anytime after that, 50seconds to 1 min. Now, i usually run it when i start the computer up, and when im done on the internet, if you go into settings on the side, and set a time for automatic clean, you dont have to worry about it, but, i do it manually.

Now, there is a registry cleaner to, run that as many times until it says "No errors found" Or something close to that. Then, your computer should be as fast as it was when you first got it.

There is also a startup thing that turns off unnecessary programs, That will really speed up your computer, but, it is only recommended to do that if your know what your doing. Or if your turning off downloaded programs (IE Skype, VLC. etc)

Hopefully that helped, Also, Try a defraging program to.
