I’ve resurrected my old desktop, a Gigabyte GA-BX2000, Intel 440BX also flashed the bios with most recent version. I was interested to find out what speed I was getting from the HD (Fujitsu MPD3108AT – ATA/66), and be able to understand the results for use with other systems. The specs taken from the hand book says under IDE ports:
2 Ultra DMA/33 Bus Master IDE Channels onboard. Using IRQ 14, 15.
Support mode 3, 4 IDE & ATAPI CD-ROM.
Not sure what Support mode 3, 4 means.
As to the speed question, I’ve used;
System Speed Test 32 from UBCD, HD Tune Pro, HD Speed and got a wide variety of reported speeds. Having read posts here on the subject I was not expecting to see anything like 33Mbs but to see SST32 report an Average/Max seek of 9.95/15.47 while HD Tune Pro and HD Speed give averages between 3.5 and 12.7Mbs.
Then there’s the SST32 graphic bottom left which gives a HD speed of 276, no idea what units are being used here.
HDTune Pro shows 5Mbs average under the info tab (UDMA2 Active) but then reports 12.7Mbs average when running the accurate benchmark. Or should I go by the burst rate of 24.6Mbs??
Tested several times, with the primary slave connected/disconnected and with 40 or 80 wire cable with no real differences
Thanks
Tim
