I built a gaming computer last october to run my flight sims. it worked well in frames (getting 34 fps solid) but now its getting only 15-22 fps. i just bought a thermaltake water 2.0 performer cooler, because my cpu temps. were getting a little high. i just want to know if there is a bottle neck in this somewhere. im open to answers. also i can buy whatever i need to fix this problem.
Thanks
Trevor

Comp. Specs
Haf 912 case (does not really matter)
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 Motherboard
AMD AM3+ FX (6200) 6 core Processor oc to 4.1 but can go to 4.3 GHz Max
Saphire HD 7770 GHz Edition Graphics Card (Radeon)
Corsair Vengeance 4GB X2 (I meant to buy the 1866MHz but It says 1333 and if I try to oc it via bios, it wont let me start my computer)
ULTRA 500 watt PS (says peak power is 600W)
2 System fans, and a thermaltake water 2.0 performer (the pump and two fans)
WD black 1 Tb Sata Hard Drive (if it matters)

On a system like yours, I get 40fps lock on High Settings and with Carenado and Scenery addons. I would expect 30-50 depending on your level of detail.

It's good enough for FSX, and better than my 6770, yet he's getting less frames. This doesn't add much to the idea that our friend is trying to diagnose a reason for unreasonably low fps.

Strange. The only thing different to your system then could potentially be the drivers and the lower speed Ram.

Agreed. A driver re-install/update would be in order. Also, he should be able to OC the RAM on that Motherboard... Strange goings on here.

Running the RAM at a higher speed will yield minimal (if even detectable) results in terms of increased FPS rates. More likely, this is a video and/or chipset driver issue that should be resolved by updating to current versions.

Could also be a heat issue if the guts of the rig hasn't been cleaned recently, or a case fan has failed. Checking system temps would also be in order.

Well, he's running a Water 2.0 so checking the pump speed should be a check as well - The Kuhler 920 I fitted to a friends GPU had to be run through his fan controller, as the pump speed was not changing (Like this on the CPU as well! FSX is heavily CPU dependent, and even with dust the HD7770 shouldn't overheat without an overclock. But I agree a dust check would also be the doctors order.

Hey guys thanks for all the answers. I have not Updated Graphics Drivers In a long time, I am doing that now. Also my fsx settings are
-Graphics-
Target frame rate 34
Filtering Anisotropic (anti aliasing turned on)
Global Texture Res. (Very High)
Preview Direct x 10 ON
Lens Flare ON
Light bloom OFF
Advanced Animations ON
-AIRCRAFT-
ULTRA HIGH

-SCENERY-
Level of detail: Large
Mesh Complexity:75
Mesh Resolution:38m
Texture Resolution: 1m
Water Effects: Max 2.x
Land detail textures: ON
Scenery Complexity: Very Dense
Autogen Density: Dense
Ground Scenery Shadows OFF
Secial Effects Detail: High
-WEATHER-
Ultra High

-TRAFFIC-
Airline Traffic: 5%
General Aviation Traffic: 5%
Airport Vehicle Density: High
Road vehicles: 11%
Ships And Ferries: 2%
Leisure Boats: 2%
Remember these are the same settings i had when i used to get 34 FPS solid

What version of Windows are you using? You should be able to get the latest chipset drivers at the Gigabyte or AMD (see first link) support website for your system. You just need to get the drivers that match your flavor of Windows (32 or 64 bit in particular). You install them like you install the video drivers.

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/raid_windows.aspx#2

I recommend you install the chipset drivers and then re-install the latest video drivers afterward. Be sure to always get the latest video drivers directly from the AMD website.

If all else has failed, all I can recommend is a complete Reinstall of FSX. This most likely wont make a difference but is worth trying anyway.

Do you have any other games that are having FPS rate issues? You could install something like one of the Unigine benchmark tools to see how well your GPU performs outside of FSX. I suggest getting the Valley tool (see below) and reporting the results here for analysis. I suggest using the Extreme HD profile for testing:
