Hello

i've a IBM eserver system x 8144-2dy with 3 disk on RAID 5, i need to increase the free space so i've add another disk (145gb) and addedd to the actual Array through ServeRaid Manager 7.12.

After array expansion is complete (2 days), the software will not let me expand the logical drive this in any way, according to IBM documentation should be a possibility by pressing right on the array current but the option is absent.

Array is now over 500gb but the logical drive is 250gb yet.

qualcuno ha esperienza in merito che possa aiutarmi ?

Marco,

Which ServeRAID adapter does your system have in it?

I have some experience with IBM System x... but need to know which RAID adapter you have before I can help more.

Also, just to be clear -- does your server's OS see the additional space as 'free space' on the same drive, free space as another drive, or not at all?

Also, SAS or SATA drives?

I have seen some cases where you can do Dynamic Array Expansion but *not* do Volume Expansion.

Hi

The server have a IBM ServeRaid-6m SCSI controller, the disk are n°4 146,5Gb SCSI disks.

After the adding the 4th disk to the array, the logical disk are the same space that have before the activity (about 273gb), the system (w2003r2 smb) display the same space available before the activity (on disk management and diskpart).

On ServeRaid Manager, on Array, the only function available now is :

LOGICAL DRIVE-MIGRATION - CHANGE RAID LEVEL FROMT 5 TO 0

Now i think that the reason should be this :

Ibm documentation says : This action is not supported on the integrated RAID controller.

http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/director/v5r2/index.jsp?topic=/serveraid_5.20/fqy0_t_modifying_logical_drives_sr_scsi.html

but the guide are in the IBM serveraid docuemntation about scsi 6 controllers...

the only available function is to create another logica disk of about 130gb.

thank's
