I bought my new asus g75vw this christmas. Its been great so far but I have run out of space, it only has 500gb of space and I have filled that up with all the games I got. Anyway i have found my 3 year old laptop (which doesn't work) and taken it apart to get a look at what sought of hdd it has. It is a samsung 250gb with 5400 rpm, so can add this to my laptops second hdd slot, and if i can do I need a software? bare in mind though the old laptop is broken because it's been dropped a couple of times.

Thanks for your time :)

Once you physically install the HDD, verify that you can see the device in your BIOS. Assuming all is good, boot the system. Windows will see the new HDD. You should be able to right click on the drive and simply select format.

Dropping a laptop is pretty hard on HDDs, The only wan to know is to try it. Judging from how fast you filled up the 500GB drive, the 250GB drive isn't going to last you very long. Personally, I don't know what it's like to have a laptop as my only computer. This situation is just one reason why I don't even own a laptop.

Yea, i thought that maybe it wasn't worth it seeing as i can get a reasonably cheap external hard drive until i've got the money to afford a better internal hdd. I only thought that using the old hdd was worth a try to save money. Will it harm my computer if i tried?

I have seen a faulty HDD prevent booting but removing it made booting normal.
